Big Reds Rap Riverside, 25-7

BELLE, WV - With Aaron Roberts, Chandler Hamilton and Dan Fox leading the way the Parkersburg Big Reds snapped their losing streak with a fine all-around offensive and defensive performance in posting a 25-7 victory over their MSAC rival the Riverside Warriors.
Roberts threw for three touchdowns and 131 yards with Hamilton and Fox scoring two TDs each while the Big Red defense, led by Josh Winger, Melvin Stubbs, Josh Trembly, Chase Shank and Max Chefren, limited the Warriors to just one touchdown.
Corey Burdette led a solid PHS ground game with 111 yards on 22 carries while Hamilton added 81 yards on just six attempts. Hamilton scored on a 15 yard lateral from Stephen Dailey on a pass from Roberts and added a 63 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage in the second half that essentially broke the game open. Fox found his way into the end zone from 16 and 14 yards away on passes from Roberts.
The Big Reds finished with 321 yards in total offense and 19 first downs with Roberts completing eight of 14 passes, four of them to Fox. PHS committed no turnovers.
Riverside had 12 first downs and 202 yards in total offense with Will Jackson leading the way with 111 yards on 27 carries and scored his team's only TD on a one yard run with just over a minute left in the first half.
Winger had 11 tackles while Stubbs returned to action after an injury to register 10 stops, the same total as Trembly. Shank had nine tackles and Chefren eight. Fox had an interception and J.D. Barnette a fumble recovery for PHS.
Riverside got on the board first thanks to a 32 yard pass to Jeffery Wong that set up Jackson's one yard run over left guard with 1:10 left in the first half.
But the Big Reds turned things up several notches almost immediately as Hamilton returned the ensuing kickoff 36 yards to the 50 yard line and after attempting just two passes previously in the half, Roberts threw four straight times, completing a 15 yarder to Preston DeBerry and a 14 yarder to Trembly. Then, with just over 30 seconds on the clock, Roberts threw over the middle to Dailey, who lateraled to Hamilton and the speedy senior raced into the end zone with only 28 seconds left before intermission.
The second half saw PHS strike quickly again with the Big Reds starting from their own 37 after Winger fell on the onside kick attempt. Hamilton took the handoff up the middle, cut to the outside and raced to the end zone to put PHS up for good with just 14 seconds gone in the third quarter.
The interception by Fox on the Riverside 22 yard line early in the fourth quarter set up the third touchdown, a lob to Fox in the right corner of the end zone with 10:12 on the clock.
Then came a blocked punt by Noah Weaver which set up a 28 yard field goal try by Josh Roney that was short but that was followed by a fumble recovery by Barnette on the Riverside 47 yard line that led to the game's final score. a 17 yard catch by Fox preceded the touchdown, which came on a razzle-dazzle play involving a double reverse and a toss back to Roberts, who found Fox again in the end zone from 14 yards away with 2:27 remaining.
